Hey, not really satisfied with this because a lot of the stuff we learned in class went a little over my head. Simple texture patch, and no custom brush. I may repost a better version of this guy soon.
I like it though! I think you are getting a handle on shapes and I really enjoy his fin legs! I think the brush was really well placed in this and I really enjoy his teeth, although there are a couple on the left side that get a little weirdly-shaped!
Also this little green bits are weirding me out a bit. What is up with that? And ewwww, chest hair! But this looks great!
I agree with what Maya said. The green bits are kind of freaking me out. I feel like they're just kind of "there", and if you want to keep them, I'd maybe scatter them all over the body or place something else in that area.
The form of your shark creature is really nice- I like how you added in some hints of shading as well as the red lines to further give shape. The mouth/teeth look absolutely fantastic- great job on that. For the one texture you did use, I think it's well placed.
Great shapes love the feet. Some of the hair textures are lime green not sure if they are meant to feels a bit distracting. The teeth near the corners of the mouth get a bit bunched so maybe space them out and shrink them down a little. Awesome idea.
It exudes disturbing masculinity. It's well done, but the orange parts feel a bit slapped in. If you could use it a bit more, it may look better, or just get rid of it.
I know you said you'd like to take another stab at it - so until then - you have done a great job so far with the shapes in illustrator. It looks like you're really getting the hang of the pen tool - this looks really nice and clean. I especially like the detail you've started in the mouth and know that once you add the textures that this could be pretty awesome. Where you have them, though - is starting to get there! I'd be happy to help you figure out what you want to add! I love the weird hairy chest your monster has - seems like a funny and ill-fitting texture for a guy like him, but who knows. Maybe he's just that manly. I'm interested in seeing if you're going to bring the green in anywhere else? everything else feels pretty unified in color!

I love how you extended fins into created arms + legs. his eyes are great, I just wish the rest of the body had a bit more depth!

ReplyDeleteI think it's very funny that this shark has chest hair. It is still very clean and sharp, I only see one texture. This is a great illustration
