used mostly textures and transparency for the monster, and a brush for the upper background pattern

  1. I love how blobby he is. maybe just add a bit more definition to separate out his features.

  2. I think you did a great job incorporating your textures into this little creature. I think using one of the brushes or making your own brush and using it as a border for the purpley table surface would maintain the nice depth and illustrative style of your monster.

  3. Oh my god this is really freaking me out. I love the textures and the design but I just saw this and was like "AHH"

It's not that it's scary, it's just... strange! I don't know how to describe it exactly! But it was definitely a good reaction to have to a monster and I feel this is a very successful design!

  4. I really like how you used transparencies along with the textures to give him a really blobby/melty feel~ Those eyes are absolutely crazy, the teeth too! The one thing that bothers me is that the texture on the lips (?) cuts off before the shape does in a sharp line. Other than that, nice use of textures!

  5. All I can say is that I'm jealous as hell, hahaha. Awesome forms, awesome textures. The only thing I could say about it is that I wish you did something with the ground. Other than that, you're golden!

  6. I like the line work that runs throughout the monster and background it really pulls everything together. Great work on the textures and transparency. First looking at it I thought there should be a texture on the floor but not that i think about it that might be to cluttered. So it the way it is.

  7. Nice Textures. It like how you're using the clipping mask to crop the textures perfectly to the edge of the shapes. Nice. I also like your take on how you're using textures in his mouth - it's pretty gross, but totally fitting. Blobby, but weirdly sharp at the same time. Sort of reminds me on the inside of a whale's mouth or something... but with needle teeth. ANYWAY. I also like how you're using the shape of his stripes to show the contours on his body, I think it could be neat to try and put a couple more layered shapes on top of him to act as shadows to turn his form near his right and left side. That way he doesn't look as flat? The other thing I can think of is that it could be neat for you to try some tonal variations in the color of the textures that you've used. It could be really neat to see some dark textures on lighter shapes - just to shake it up a bit. Great job.
