Practice getting familiar with Illustrator using one of my previous digital illustrations as a base.
I learned more about that program in one class than I ever thought I would know, haha.

  1. This is VERY well done! I'd maybe tweak the opacity of a few shapes (especially around the eye), but otherwise great job!

  3. It makes me really happy to see you play more with the colors in the second piece. Those purples and greens and the organic shapes all together are really beautiful!

  4. I really like the colors you chose to carry over from this! They are not the exact colors from the image but I think you chose well! I feel like there could be a bit more use of transparency, particularly in the shadows around the eye ad the purple highlights on the lashes, but I really enjoy the way you handled the eye itself - white, iris, pupil, it all looks great!

  5. I like your choice of colors on the eyeball especially, it looks very liquid like and rounded which is what an eyeball should look like.

  6. This is a great replica. The only thing I would look at is the opacity. It has some harsh color changes that are not in the original.

  8. You did a great job isolating some of the small bits of colors (eyelashes - pink) and inside the eye. It looks like you've really taken the time to grab some of those important details like in the shadows where you use blue, and some of the light inside the iris. I also like that you're using pink to get some of the shadows. I think you could play with the transparency menu in the hair a little bit to get the same kind of see-through texture that you have in the original drawing. I also really appreciate your use of the purple tones in the shadows to get the same kind of depth that you have in the original. I think you might also be able to use the smooth tool on a couple of the pointy shapes if you'd like to create a really blended look. it might be worth a shot! Great work - also nice job on posting from flicker. Perfect!

  10. I love the new depth given to this piece through illustrator. (I almost like the deeper pallet you used in the second version more.) You understand tonal values really well; it'd be nice to see some of the area under the eye be slightly more muted so the contours aren't so overpowering.

  11. I really like the choices you made in how to use the overlapping tonal shapes. They definitely give a more dynamic pull to the image rather than the softer original but at the same time it translate real nicely. WANDER.
