I love the textures on here! I wish you'd add a little more detail to his hair (like you did with his beard), but I LOVE the intense facial expression you gave him.
I think this is a good start! Your color choice for the background is nice, but I wish you had used some other color to darken the skin with! The hair also loses some volume.
I really love how you rendered the skin on this, you really achieved a lot of volume, though I think his nose could be pushed a bit more forwards (it does tend to lie a bit flat right now). I think adding a bit more of what you've done in the beard to his eyebrows/hair, it'd help give it more of that texture that separates it from the skin.
There is something that I really like about the beginning sketch! The planes of the nose are quite off however nudge it over there with the rest of the face! Also maybe try out some different ways to deal with the hair :) Sill you can totally tell who this is which is a really hard thing to do!
I like seeing how in the last one the angles in his face soften and the planes of his face look like the turn in his jaw line! I think you're doing a great job playing with the highlights as well - maybe you could add one more layer on top, in some of the key places, like on his nose, or bridge above his eyebrow? just for that last level of detail! I think it would also be cool for you to lighly dust some of the areas of his face with some warm tones, too - maybe you could do that on a separate layer, and then turn the opacity down, that way he can have some more life-color in his cheeks, just as you did in his lips! The texture in his beard is looking nice as well, is there a way you can add that texture into his hair a little more up top? I love how it looks deep (weird thing to say about beard hair) but, it would be cool to see that same effect in his hair! even in a couple spots! Great likeness. You can totally tell it's him!

ReplyDeletethe progression is very informative. I like how sometimes the parts of the face appear more flat giving it an abstract feel.
ReplyDeleteYou handled the skin very nicely. It look like that it was you spent the most time on. I would go back and look at the hair again.
ReplyDeleteOver all looks good.
omg, the face is super nice, so easy to tell who this is! so good!
ReplyDeletemaybe work on the cloth and the ear a little bit more.
