Portrait of my friend Vivian!

  1. I love how you used the purple color to be the shadow effect. I think the color works. One thing I would suggest is to add more purple to the darker side of her hair because I think her head goes a little flat on that side because of how dark the paper is. Great job using the soft grays and peach colors to add light to your subject.

  2. I don't know if your friend really has purple hair, but it works so well in your portrait. I'm glad you didn't use black for your shadows, but I think using some dark greens or reds would really mix up the color palette a bit. Maybe adding one shiny hair on shadowed side of her head would keep her hair from getting lost in the background.

  3. Very nice sense of depth! I really enjoy the texture and your color choice. The hair gets a bit stringy, but I like the watery bit in the eyes and the glossiness on the lips.

  4. Great contrast in the skin shading. I like the texture of the skin compared to the strokes of the hair. My only concern is that the lighting of the face and neck suggest a top-down, right-left light source, but the lighting of the hair looks like right-left only (if that makes sense?)

  6. The hair in this portrait is so much fun to look at! I really like how you rendered the texture, and I like that you paid attention to the way light would hit hair. It looks very realistic!

  7. You're doing a great job making the face and hair texture different! I love how you're choosing different marks - that is working really well! I also think you've done a great job adding more color to her! Keep going! maybe you could do another subtle layer on top and add some more color into the cheeks / undereyes (like a redish, pinkish, maybe?) so its like you can see the blood under her skin. Wow, that was a creepy thing to write... but you know what I mean, right? So she has some warmth in places! You know what i mean! I love the ultra darks - great job pushing the lighting! Maybe you could hit the ends of her eyelashes with a little med grey - ever so slightly on the ends! to pop her eye out of the darkness! Nice job.
