The world will know that free men stood against a tyrant, that few stood against many, and before this battle was over, even a god-king can bleed.

  1. Haha, awesome! The patches of tones you used are totally amazing, they make him look kind of squishy and dirty, which is so cool. :) You could put a few highlight hairs or a few different tones in his beard to make it stand apart from his clothes a bit more.

  3. I LOVE the gritty textures on this! I kind of wish you'd done a little bit with the background (creating a light source), but overall this looks fantastic!

  5. Hehe did you use the picture underneath and used that to maintain your colors and proportions? Because it looks very good but the way that you constructed the face is very strange and the color seems like its that exact colors of that photo. :P Good work still! I like the simplification of the clothing, try adding more fluid lines like you have there!

  6. This is Awwwwwesome! The brush strokes have a very textury gritty look to the over all piece which feels very painterly. Great work on the detail of the facial structure and the hair. Id like to see the same amount of detail with the face in the clothes. Great work.

I love the amount of detail you got in this image and how you handled the background.

  8. love the way you've kept the super highlights in his face - i think the face is the best part! For various reasons! I think you still show a lot of shadow and highlight - even though you didn't build it up with a shadow layer first, then highlights (in that order) It looks like you still thought through the way his face was constructed and it turned out nice! Now I think you could go back and unify some of the textural parts - see if there is anything you can do to make his jacket, or neck have the same kind of texture. The is just something a little differnet about the way that the stuff that's not his face is painted that makes it look like it's from another painting! Maybe just because it's larger, broader stokes instead of the little ones you used in his face. Know what I mean? maybe you can go back in and add some small textural details to his neck, outfit, and definitely the background so that it feels like it's been worked the same amount! The form is great - also i'm not sure what kind of copyright situations you might have to think of if you're using a still frame from a movie? You might want to find a way to create your own composite from several shots, or warp / charicaturize him (or whoever) a little or something so that it never is an issue! Nice portrait! Resolve the background when you have time - this is a good one, it would be worth spending the extra time!! :)
