  1. This is tight you really get a sense of depth from the dark blue shadows like around his eye and on the bottom on his hand. The background makes me think this guys contemplating whether or not he should go fishing or something lol

  2. Dude, this is sweet.
I really like his beard texture, it's very comicy. The limited color is great, too. It makes me want to explore more line-based tools in painter. He looks like he's in a band, whatever that means.

  3. This is a great piece. I like how you extended the base line work to take the edge of the canvas, the black fills work really well with this placement.

  4. This is nice! Is it water/dry? I don't know, it's just really nice. I like the heavy use of black. I think it would've been cool if you tried a more lineless, painterly approach, though, so the lineart eventually gets lost.

  5. Very nice, watching the gif you get a really good sense of improvement as you went on. The initial sketch is awesome to begin with! I like that you changed the background to blue as well as with the pattern it seems to ground the piece a lot better than with the original brown. The sense of lighting is really well done especially in the final touches all in all you seem to have a really good understanding of how to make painter work for you.

  6. I'm guessing water because of the fish... and dry? I also think water because he looks a little seasick with those colors. I like the colors and thumbs up for adding the pink in other places-- it helps move my eye around the image. Doing all the hair in this is awesome, but I'm kinda sad that it gets lost in all the other black at the end.

  7. I really like how much line work you put into this piece and still were able to add so much more with the coloring part of the project. The character comes across as really expressive and realistic. I'm not sure what the fish do, but the values they have add to the depth of the piece a lot. One thing I think could be improved on would be to do something a little different with the background. I just don't think the fish fit very well with the face right now. One other thing I like about this piece, though, is the extreme contrast that you used in the face. It adds more drama to the portrait.

  8. This looks fantastic! I love the way you're using your line work to capture textures and shadows. It's nice because you've done a really delicate job throughout the piece - it looks carefully and expertly rendered! I love the subtle hints of red in his hand and nose, it really brings some warmth into his skin. I think you could potentially bring some additional textures into the fish pattern in the back that mimic what you're doing in the foreground / person? I think the pattern is a really cool addition and with some additional splashes of color, it could also seem like he might be casting a shadow upon some wallpaper? Maybe like he's sitting alongside a wall?
