Emiller Magic Assignment Final

Oh silly Unicorn... What are you doing in space?
So I know this isn't the idea I had when talking to my group but I just kept having a ton of problems in it. And who doesn't love unicorns?
Tools: Pen tool, Textures, Outer Glow, Opacity, bubble brush thing, ect.

  1. I do like the textures. It really resembles cut paper. The glow does look a little bandy( as in the black bands as it spreads out rather than a smooth transition).

  2. The texture you used in the hair is really appropriate for it. The glow on the horn is nice and subtle. Maybe you could have used the outer glow on a few stars or even on the eyes. Glowing red eyes would be totally freaky. :) I really like how you have the subtle shadows showing the muscles.

  3. Very cut paper looking. The glow is very appropriate. Maybe the start trail thing could be glowing a bit more too. Some purple highlight would really emphasize the majesticness.

  4. I'd like to see even more of a glow on the unicorn's horn. As it is it's hard to see unless you view the picture large. Also, maybe you could play with the positioning of the unicorn, so that it's not so directly in the center. I like your color palette a lot, with the complementary purple and yellow playing off the more subdued grayish-green tone.

  5. Totally reminds me of the movie Legend, red dude is gonna snatch that horn. I like, what most people are already saying, would like to see more glow on the unicorn horn, or you can add some to the magical star dust path that it is runnig on, or the stars in the sky.

  6. You did a nice job rendering the unicorn, the only problem is that it is so light. I'm having a hard time seeing the shapes within the unicorn's body. I think you could bring some of the contrast from the background color into the unicorn and really find some shadow cores on it's body to help decipher the volume of the unicorn. Otherwise it looks good. I like the glow, and it's a nice color pallet.

  7. +: I love the idea! He is a really serious unicorn! I like the idea that you're choosing such a magical creature to work with for this assignment and I could see you going full blast with some of the effects. Maybe you could heighten the amount of glows in some areas to simulate some of his muscle tone? Maybe gradient for that, too now that I think of it!

-:I also think you could work with the atmosphere a little - like maybe his hair color gets a little lighter so it doesn't blend into the background as much, and add some deeper shadows into the underside of his body. I think you could make this seem even more fierce with a couple of those small adjustments.
I also think you could add some other compositional elements into space - or maybe crop him so that you can see the bottom of his foot?
