Lairen Baller: Lady in the Sky

BubbleSky_process06

I used bitmap in the background. The belt is a brush tool. A clipping mask on the skirt and sock things. I used the pathfinder tool a lot! super helpful! All the bubbles have an inner and outer glow along with gradient. WOOT!

  2. Very nice composition I like the balance between all the bubbles. I can see everything very clearly but I would like to see more of the glow it feels very dark for the glow project but very nice composition and great job on using the pathfinder it's an awesome tool.

  3. bubbles are awesome! I do enjoy the cut-paper feel of how this turned out, it might be nice to try and add blurs / glows to all the colors in the bubbles to create more dimension.

  4. Great use of color in the bubbles, I like that the pink is echoed in the shoes. I think the subtlety of the background glow behind the popping bubble is nice. My only complaint is that the figure seems dimly lit compared to the shiny bubbles.

  5. The colors that you used for your bubbles are gorgeous, and that background texture works really well. I think making your bubbles darker as they go back in space would really help add depth to this. Also, a bit more outer glow on the bubbles would really help define it as the light source.

  6. You did a really nice job making those bubbles believable- the colors and the shines really tie together nicely! I'm assuming the glowing part was supposed to be the bubble she's pointing at/popping, but I'd really love to see it pushed even further.

  7. I love the color in this piece _ you did a great job making it seem serene, especially with the texture in the background. I love how you're using hits of purples and blues in her clothes as a way to bring in the shadows. I also love that you're using some brights in here as well to help draw your eye around. The bubbles look really nice and convincing. The technique that you're using to create that translucent look is fantastic - i could see you doing this on other projects as well! If I were to add anything, I think you could maybe add some purple into some of the under-sides of where her skin goes beneath her hair, or in her armpits or her thigh a little more. It is an awesome start, and if you were to add just one more plane, or one more shadow, it would really turn her limbs in space even further and make her limbs look really round. Finally, maybe there is a little bit of reflective color hitting the bubble that she's standing on? Maybe it could reflect a little bit of the pink of her shoe.

the way you're using the texture in this is fantastic as well. It looks like cut paper. I also like the subtle use of your gradients. Really nice. Great job.
