Holy dang, this is pretty cool! I like the sense of light you have achieved! The flames look very solid, though! Like liquid... or... maybe even really weird flower petals! I'm not entirely certain what texture you are going for, but it does look nice!
Holy wow, how did you go about rendering that fire stuff? It looks nice. I think the edges on the fire can be softened up a teeny bit, and I think it would be awesome if your fire glow was a bit bigger so that we can see more of the hand and draw away from so much black space at the top. This looks great!
I have already told you this but drawing fire is very tricky! You handled it very well. It almost looks like jumping lava. It would be cool if the black fingers had a little light just around the edges to pop them out more. Also I would live the see a little bit of the person in the background.
The fire pieces are interesting and the glow is pretty believable, but there is something going on with that one finger? good work with the gradient mesh
I think the shapes you used are too solid to really read as fire- but I don't think that stops it from being a successful piece! To me, it almost looks like it's a handful of melting, glowing, metal, or something along those lines. The lighting is very well done- especially in the fingers. If you wanted to make it look more like fire, perhaps play with much lighter colors in the "core" of the fire, and play with layering opacity or layer settings? Just to give it a more airy feel. Nice work!
I think you're getting so close to making this a really nice organic fire! I think it might help to see if you are able to blur the edges even further with the fire, maybe some of the shapes can have a little bit of transparency to them - so they don't feel as solid. but you're really close! The way you'er using the gradient mesh is really nice! It looks like it's flickering! I think you could also maybe go over the top of some of the flames and see if you could use an orange/ yellow gradient at 40 or 50% transparency to blend the bottom shapes into the rest of the fire? Maybe just to soften the bottom half of the fireball? I love that you're using such a super nice silhouette of the fingers in the foreground and I love the thumb! I think the pinky could fade out near the bottom a little, too - so it looks like it connects back to he three silhouetted fingers a little --maybe that ring finger can have a tiny bit of reflected light on the side! Nice job with the gradients and blurs!

ReplyDeleteI love the glow in the fire, but the background feels a little empty to me.

ReplyDeleteI really like how you dealt with the planes in the hand. I do wish there was some transparency the fire looks too solid to be readable to me.
ReplyDeleteRachel! :O I see you put in some more work eh? I love it, I wonder what this would look like as a piece of a large scale illustration....? Dope.

ReplyDeleteSuper sweet!

ReplyDeleteGOD, the fire is really cool. I just wish the three fingers are not black.
